My passion is leading weight loss meetings. I love motivating. I love sharing tips and ideas. But one thing that we get in a meeting that's missing from a blog is the interaction. During a meeting, believe me, I GET a lot more than I GIVE. When you hear one person, you get the views and ideas of that one person. But in a meeting, you get the information and ideas from everyone in the group.
So today I want you to meet six beautiful people. Not beautiful because of how they look (though you'll see they ARE that, too) but beautiful because of what they are doing. They have struggled for years and have felt the pain of weight gain, poor choices and missed opportunities. Some are at goal. Some are still on their journey. They're just like you. They're just like me.
And today they're each sharing one tip with you...
MEET KARA-LEE HOUSE (USERNAME: LaurensMyPrincess)
KARA-LEE'S TIP: PLAN! PLAN! PLAN! For me, Planning my meals out ahead of time and putting them in my tracker is the biggest tip I can share. On May 22, 2005 I joined Weight Watcher's with my mom, weighing 300 lbs. In 11 months I lost over 100lbs...that very month I conceived my second child. I did the very thing that I was afraid I might do and I gained back half of what I lost during my pregnancy. It took me 2 years to get back to the frame of mind that I had been in when I joined W.W. in 2005. So, in Jan. 2009 I decided to take just one day at a time and make small permanent changes -- like planning my food. I have currently lost 173 lbs and am almost at my goal weight!
MEET LEIGHAN WHITE-MILLER (USERNAME: Leighan)
LEIGHAN'S TIP: GET MOVING! Find something you enjoy and do it to the fullest. I started a workout journal. My goal is to run 1000 miles this year – that's about 20 miles a week. I wouldn't have considered this 45 lbs ago, but now I'm close to my workout goal and well as my weight loss goal! Try something. If you don't like it, try something else. No matter what ... just keep moving!
MEET WENDY SEBAS (USER NAME: was328)
WENDY'S TIP: HAVE PATIENCE! During weigh-in at Kim’s meetings I congratulate everyone as they shout out losses of 2, 3, and even 4 lbs a week. I sheepishly say .4, .8 and, on an especially good week, I am able to say 1.2! Week after week it is the same. I am actually excited to weigh in because I know I am following the plan but it is the same thing tiny, bitty losses. But I've learned patience and those .2s have added up to more than 50 lbs!
MEET PAT HUMENIUK (USERNAME: StamperGirl)
Pat is on maintenance and is a STAR on our site. Check out her story here ...
PAT'S TIP: GO SHOPPING ... A LOT! I would keep trying all the cute clothes I couldn't wait to fill my closet. I didn't buy a lot along the way because I knew it would be too big in a short while (such a dilemma!) but I still kept trying things on. Now ... I buy!
MEET PATTI WASKO (USERNAME: usheirlooms)
Patti is on maintenance and will soon be a STAR. Look for her upcoming story ...
PATTI'S TIP: GET SUPPORT! This is needed in everything we do in life. SUPPORT WILL produce successful results and in Kim’s words, “YOU CAN DO THIS!” I attend Kim's Wednesday meetings with a good friend (Leighan, above) and we've encouraged each other along the way. Support can also be gained on Kim’s Weekly Online Meeting – where we can participate! Giving and getting support is a MUST DO for reaching your weight loss goal!
MEET DONNA BRINKER (USERNAME: DJ)
DONNA'S TIP: BE SELFISH! Make yourself a top priority. START believing you are absolutely worth whatever it will take for your weight loss journey to be successful. Believe in yourself and your dream. At 270 lbs I finally went back to WW and became a Lifetime member. I was 115 pounds lighter! Today, as a WW Leader, I try to share the joy of what I have found and let others know that it is possible for them too. The best thing I have done for myself since then has been to become a very grateful member of KimBensen.com. I am proud of my accomplishments with Weight Watchers, but I am thrilled and grateful to be a "Kimmie"!
Thanks you all so much! If you want to ask any of these or other members a question, you can look for them right here in the blogs. Let's keep sharing our info and pooling our ideas.
Make YOUR weight loss journey a major priority in your life. Because very soon, I may be asking YOU for YOUR tips. Until then, let's all keep working ...

Just bought Kim's book and have already read 60 pages. This is a wonderful book that will help me get to my goal on Weight Watchers. I have been on Weight Watchers before and gotten close to my goal several times and let life get in the way. This time I am determined NOT TO GIVE UP!
I am very grateful that Kim has shared her story with us, as painful as some of it was for her.
I realize now that I have not FAILED unless I QUIT TRYING!

Wow, I used to write stories with a friend of mine and we made up all kinds of scenarios, and you guys with the talk show remind me of it. I had so much fun writing them. Unless I'm totally off and you all are planning a talk show, then I apologize. I'm hoping this doesn't disappear on me before I'm done. I just made some choc. mousse I saw on Dr. Oz and it's made with an avaccado, well it was a pain in the butt to make but it tastes delicious!! I made the creamy baked chicken breasts from Kim's book last night and my daughter practically inhaled the whole thing!! She said it's the best thing I've made so far, and I have made ALOT of recipes!!
I have a pet peeve that I want to put out there- It drives me crazy that plus-size catalogs go up to a 5X, but they don't have one model that looks over a size 10/12!!! How do I know if something is going to look decent on me if they don't really have plus size models!! I want to have at least 2-3 models that weigh over 200lbs., and I'm pretty far from 200lbs. And because I am a catalog junkie (I love looking at catalogs for anything and everything!!) I just got a Victoria Secret catalog that puts me in a deep depression!! (Just kidding!) I just don't think it's fair that fat chicks don't get pretty undies. Or cute jammies. It isso hard to find clothes that I actually like that don't cost a fortune that actually fit me and they aren't so long I would have to roll them 20 times!! I have the curse of being fat and short, which really stinks! OK, well I'm going to go make some dinner, and watch some "Clean House" (I am so addicted to that show, I'll even watch repeats over and over!!) I hope you all have had wonderful weeks and lots of pounds lost!!
TTFN!!

HOW did I lose what I wrote AGAIN*********************
Phyllis you have to be in charge of communications, and all the hiring! As you can see, my words keep disappearing before my eyes! Kim will need Penny to keep up with the new book she's writing about all of us, and she'll be having a Dream Kitchen in the Studio for her cooking segments, so you will need to be her Personal Assistant for the Show. I'm picturing you in something very elaborate, and you will be carring a magic wand to give each of us the hope to believe in ourselves. I did not realize our Maggie had Pampered Chef experience, she will be perfect for advertising. And Maggie, my daughter Catherine is a Graphic Designer in SC, I just know she will design a logo, brochures, and business cards for ALL of us! I think we need to ask Kara Lee and Holly our costume designers to "step up" Kim's appearance a little, do you think Kim would object to wearing one of those fabulous red dresses? Phyllis, we can find her a cute pair of strappy sandals with rhinestones! And let's see if Patti our makeup designer will put a little more emphasis on Kim's eyes, I know, how about false eyelashes? Her eyes are so sparkly, it would be so fun to put more focus there! Great idea with Mary Angel on interviews, maybe she could get Oprah as our first guest, and she can join our group! Jill you are perfect as producer, you can handle the pink faux fur headphones with sparkles, we will eventually get them to work, but you will look the part in your stilletos and chiffon! Donna you fit the role as Ex. Producer perfectly, and we are counting on you to keep us motivated as well! As for me, as you said Phyllis, I will be outfited in cashmere, and I'll be addiing my Jackie O sunglasses! The door is open Kimmies, you're in charge Phyllis! Love Ginny

WOW...8 pages of comments to this blog has to be some kind of record. I'm 4 pages behind in my reading, but, had to write this somewhere so I came to the Kimmies....tonight I had a goal of not eating after dinner. Kitchen closed, end of story. Brushed my teeth then did "white strips" a bit later then worked on the baby quilt I'm making for my nieces little ones dedication this Sunday. I did it! Had to push through a few tough moments but I did it and it feels great! G'nite all.....

Phyllis~ I wanted to let you know that things went well at the doctor's today. He assured me that he had left that there because he needs the extra skin so when he does my stomach surgeries...he will need it so that it doesn't pull down on my chest....big sigh of relief. I'm done with the suit on the 7th and having training that day with Kristen....Woo Hoo!
See you guys tomorrow.
God Bless,
Kara-Lee

When we lose all the weight that we need to, will our brain automatically become larger?
jailes said,
February 24, 2010 6:14 PM
Phillie -- I felt the same way as you about the smaller brain in obese people -- but it appears there have been studies done that do say that. I did a search on "effects of obesity on the brain" -- there were lots of articles that are saying the studies show this to be true to some degree. I didn't like hearing Mimi say that, and that's why I did a search -- I'm not going to worry about it b/c you know we're smart (!!!) but I thought it's one more reason I should add to my "Why I Want To Lose Weight" list!! Not that I needed any more reasons to lose -- but I guess it is one more! Also -- if you think about those pics we've seen from Walmart --- could this stuff about the smaller brain, then, considering those pics, be true???? Oh brother -- double brother!!

ginny after you've had time to mull over some of mine and
Jillie's brainstorming, Let us know what you think. Mean-
time, I am getting ready to tape one of my pictures on my
blog, so you should be able to see it tonite! Thanks for
being so sharpwitted! I would never have thought of that!

Jillsie, I can just see you now, leaning way over with a
mike on a long string and your cute earplugs/muffs in
pink with sparkles, leading the audience in a cheer. This
is going to be really good. We want it to be classy, so
you will have to wear the whole rigout including stilletos
in purple with little feathers. I see pink and purple
chiffon overlays, too. But we have to ask Ginny, first,
it was not only her idea, but she does wear green cashmere
jackets. You know I got her started on that whole cashmere
jaunt. I think Mike is pretty testy with me right now. Her clothes are getting really expensive! But she is the
AdvanceGirl and has an appearance to uphold.

Ginny -- I assumed your starbucks name came from THE Starbucks!! My daughter Abbie is a huge Starbucks fan too -- we go there every Sunday on the way to church -- and you're right -- We DO deserve to be pampered! I had to lol at your idea of taping your pic to the computer if you can't figure out how to get it uploaded -- that sounded like an excellent idea and it made perfect sense to me!!!
Margaret -- I knew that a size 12 wasn't a plus size -- I just knew it!!! It's been awhile since I fit into anything that small - so I wasn't sure if it was just me or if that was truly too small for a plus!!!
Thanks to all for the compliments on how cute Bessie is --- she is cute in looks and personality!
Oh Phillie -- you started it girl - the Oprah show adventure -- you DO realize this story could go on and on and on. . . . . I loved reading your posts about getting it all organized!!! The only thing I have to ask --- could I PLEASE wear one of those cool headsets that you see those important producing types wear???!!!??? P L E A S E !!??!!??!! I just think they look so important and cool -- I've always wanted one of those!!! I don't even care if I can hear others or if I can talk to others in the headset -- I just want to have one on!!! And could it be pink with faux fur ear muffy thingies????
Sandra -- I was just thinking ----- if you want to put your before pic on your profile and then type a blog and say it's there and will be there for just so many days - we could all see it and then you could go back to your "after" pic --- I hope that in the future we'll have the option of putting more than one pic on our profiles -- it would be fun to see before/afters or some other special pic someone might want to share.

Sandra, You are so right. That little woman who took over
was just a bore; and put out some very bad information. As
usual, facts were skewed as were actual science behind so
many things; for instance, the comment about fat people
having smaller brains! What idiotic thinking. She needs
to relax. Our Kim did appear really concerned and really
together. We are so fortunate. Love phyllis

SBB, just relax and enjoy your vacation. Try to do what
Ginny and I are trying to do: remember when something goes
in your mouth and you chew it, it tastes really good, but
once it goes down your throat....you know the rest. So we
decided we were going to exchange 30 bites for 6, or l4
for 4. It has actually helped. Love Phyllis

So, I just watched the "Is it Ok to be Fat?" panel Kim was on. Kim, you came across just as you always do... informative, sweet, and super supportive. I can't say the same for the other women on the panel. Although I agree with the "Plus-size" model (size 12...haha) that moderation is the key, and different people have different body types, no one seemed very happy on that panel. But, as you might imagine, the person I had a HUGE issue with was that woman who kept on spouting off about the cost "fat" people have on our society. Yes, it is healthier to be in a normal weight range. Yes, you feel better about yourself. But I wish everyone would remember that it is NOT ok to treat people badly just because they are overweight. And I do not know a single overweight person (myself included) who wants to be overweight and tries not to lose weight. I understand that being overweight costs money. However, that woman on the panel made it seem that overweight people are the bane of society and the only ones who cost society money. Many, many people cost society money. People with mental illnesses cost society money. People with disabilities cost society money. Unemployed people cost society money. Homeless people cost society money. Criminals cost society money. Stupid people cost society money with their crazy antics which lead to emergency services being rendered. Drunk drivers cost society money. Drug addicts cost society money. I could go on, but I don't want to get too hyped up about this. The point is that while being overweight is not an ideal situation, people should really have more tolerance.

I love that I can see what everyone looks like now! I posted a fairly recent picture of myself in my profile. It is only 2 months old, so I guess that was about 15 pounds or so ago. I really wish there was room to post my BEFORE picture because it is HIDEOUS and it really shows how far I have come. But I will update the picture regularly. I love all of your profiles and pictures. It is so nice to put faces to all the names.
I booked a hair appointment at the salon for tomorrow night and now I am hoping that I can get home in time for the meeting. I simply can not afford to miss another meeting! Plus, I really look forward to them.
Have a great day everyone. Hi Phyllis and Mary and Kara-Lee and Jill and everyone else!

Gin, I think we can definitely land Oprah's spot for Kim.
You be the "Advance Girl" and contact the station. I want to be Kim's personal assistant but know Penny's going to
get that, so I'll probably get stuck with the speechwriting
because of my working for the" "Governor Days. I think Jillie ought to bethe one who warms up the audience. You know she's hard to beat at that! Donna-Lu is so organized
and sophisticated she can be executive producer, Patti Make-up and hair, Mary Angel will be our Interviewer, she's got a lot of sense. O, I know, I'll be on wardrobe/ costuming. I think I don't need to be in charge since I am sort of tacky. We'll put Kara-Lee on that! She always loooks great and probably Holly. Only one thing left to do and that's to line up our guests. I really prefer all Kimmies, but don't know what you think! Please advise!

Jill, I haven't watched it all yet, but I caught that part about being a plus-size model at size 12. I thought that was a little weird myself. I know the 'regular' stores here(Memphis) carry up to even 16, with some of the specialty plus size stores starting at 14, some at 16W.
Margaret:)
