weight loss motivation, tools, and support

I have never felt thin.  For the past 11 years I have done Weight Watchers® on and off.  It feels like I was always trying to lose weight.

I remember going to my OBGYN and asking about getting pregnant since it was taking us a while to get pregnant.  She barely looked up from my chart saying that I needed to lose weight.  I was crushed.  Hearing that made me want to eat more.  I held it together until she left the examine room and then burst into tears in my husband's arms.  So I quickly changed doctors and found a much better fit.  I lost some weight and then we got pregnant with Lexi. So in all reality the previous doctor was right — she just could have said it in a much nicer way.

I reached my highest point with my daughter Alexis. The day I gave birth to her I weighed 234 lbs.  I look at pictures and can't even believe it. People say you are eating for two when you're pregnant; I think I was eating for a family of four!

After having Lexi, once again I joined Weight Watchers® again. I would go up and down: up a pound, down a pound and a half, up a half a pound.  But I got pregnant with Sean and had to go off of WW once again because of their rules.  I didn't gain quite as much with Sean, but I still felt horrible. I continued WW for the next two years, but, looking back at all of my weigh-in booklets, I see I just could not break 179 lbs which my lowest ever on WW.  I did POINTS® and now realize that even though I was "On Program", I was NOT eating well-rounded.

One weekend in January 2013, I saw there was an open house at Kim Bensen's Weight Loss Center.  But it was the weekend we were having my kids' birthdays. My husband encourged me to go but I put myself on the back burner again and didn't start until the beginning of February.

After the first meeting and getting started I felt very overwhelmed.  I didn't know what I had gotten myself into and was worried I was going to fail again. My husband asked me how it went and I told him, "I have no idea what I just heard." He said, "So you didn't sign up? " I said "Yes I did."

The meeting had started at 9:00 am and I didn't get home until after noon! I decided, "If Kim believes in this program enough to spend that much time with me and the other new member, I'll have to give it a serious try."  My husband Glen and I looked at the Options® booklet together and a friend of mine, who also attends Kim's, helped me out, too. It was great knowing there are several meetings I could attend be it in person or online.

It was hard with two little ones, but I'd try to get to online meetings a couple times a week and one in person meeting — unless I felt like I needed more.

BUT as soon as I started Options® I saw results!  Most weeks were losses on the scale, a few times I stayed the same. Less than a handful of times were gains. This time I WAS eating well-rounded. The other thing different this time was the support — it is everywhere with this program.

Once I started I just kept going, doing what I needed to do. Eight months after I started, I got to GOAL ... 155 lbs! I used to look at my wedding pictures and think, "Wow.  I looked beautiful."  My husbands says I am even smaller now than our wedding day — the one day I did feel pretty.

For the last 11 years I didn't think this was possible. But ... IT WAS POSSIBLE and now IT IS REALITY.

  1. PRE-PLAN!
  2. If you can attend meetings in person once a week do it.  You get to form bonds with other Kimmies, talk to Kim and staff and try out the new recipes (if you'rea local person).
  3. Watch at least one more meetings or more online.  Since every meeting has different members, the meetings are all a little different and new things come up.
  4. Try new recipes every week. I have a few favorites like Hamburger Soup; Kielbasi and Bean Soup; Turkey Sausage, Spinach and Bean Soup and 3-2-1 Cake. My new favorite is the Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie. Trying new recipes keeps it exciting.
  5. Get to Boot Camp! Pam Kaelin's Sunday online meetings are a great start to the week.
  6. If you know there is a food that will tempt you, get it out of the house!
  7. Read the Kimmies FB page and post things — great support!
