weight loss motivation, tools, and support

My struggle with weight has been long and difficult, beginning at 10 years old when I was enrolled in Weight Watchers®. Over the years I tried all the extremes from starving myself and a liquid fast diet to the famous Grapefruit Diet. They all worked. Yet none of them really worked. In desperation I even tried making myself throw up, but am so glad I was a failure at that one!  I lost 80 pounds before my wedding using NutriSystem® and gained back 100 pounds after finding out I was pregnant. Jenny Craig® was next. I lost 40 pounds but went broke buying the food. I gained the 40 plus an additional 20 after that one.

Weighing 300 pounds and completely forelorn, I gave up hope. I was 300 pounds -- which is high for anyone, but I'm also only 5' 2" feet tall! I had high cholesterol, high blood pressure, Graves Disease and Diabetes which I controlled with two shots and a pill each day. I was a wreck physically and emotionally. My messed up thyroid made weight loss difficult and my hope was all but gone.

Then one day I was watching the Dr Oz Show and Kim was on feeding Dr Oz her Midnight Brownies. Something she said struck a chord with me. I bought a copy of Finally Thin which led me this website. That was the beginning.

At first I tried her Options® program (formerly Xchanges) but didn't really 'get it.' But I persevered and once I caught on, the weight started coming off. And so my journey, and my slow changes to success, began ...

I was always a night time eater - I didn't eat much during the day but at night the grazing began and lasted all night long. I used to think, "No one better put their hand in front of my face. It'll be gone!" Kim once said, "If you can't CONTROL nighttime eating by fitting it in, you have to STOP it all together. Fortunately, I was able to control it and still enjoy snacking at night. But I also now start my day with a healthy breakfast, too. A chocolate lover, I still start and end my day with my favorite food group - chocolate. I add cocoa powder to my oatmeal and end with a little treat, too.

A very slow loser, I had to be happy with 1/2 pound or sometimes 1-1/2 pounds a week. No big numbers for me! And I had SO FAR to go! But I kept my head in the game by coming to meetings and focusing on one day at a time. At least the scale was moving downward. Over time it added up! I remember hitting my 100 pounds lost moment! But that was also a hard time for me. I had a three month period where I stuck with it PERFECTLY and didn't lose at all! I was ready to give up. But help came in the form of a fellow-kimmie and fellow-choco-holic: Mary Cheebs. She listened. She encouraged me and sent me cards and notes which I still have. "You can't give up. You've come too far. It's not about the numbers, it's about being "ON"! Focus on your behavior," she said. So, I did. And three months later the scale started moving again. I'll never be able to express the gratitude I have to my friend.

I've made other significant changes as well. I never cooked before joining the site ... NEVER! Now I cook all the time. I also am a die-hard PREplanner. But I still do it the old-fashioned way, on paper.

Today I've lost 152 pounds - from 300 to 148!  I do exercise videos from DVDs and still love walking. Other than my thyroid meds, I don't take any medications at all any more. NONE. There's no trace of diabetes. My blood pressure and cholesterol numbers are perfect. And I feel amazing. I still can't believe it! I've lost HALF OF ME! And you can do it, too!

I am so grateful for the inspiration of Kim and all the kimmies. I could never have done this without all of my kimmie sistas!

Come on ... it's YOUR turn now!
